Pharmacy First Service

The Pharmacy First Service is a program offering advice and NHS-funded treatment for seven common conditions. It involves consultations initiated by patients, NHS 111, GPs, or others, and includes the existing Community Pharmacist Consultation Service.

During these consultations, individuals with symptoms can receive advice and, if clinically required, be provided with a prescription-only treatment under a Patient Group Direction (PGD). The service also has future plans to involve independent prescribers.

Attending the One Day Minor Illness Course with One PCN Training equips pharmacists with the knowledge and skills necessary to enhance their delivery of the Pharmacy First Service. This specialised training enables pharmacists to effectively identify and manage minor illnesses associated with the service’s seven common conditions.

By staying updated through the course, pharmacists can confidently provide thorough consultations, offer appropriate advice, and contribute to the overall success of the Pharmacy First Service in collaboration with Primary Care Networks (PCNs).
